Heerlen is struggling a lot with a lot of empty buildings, shopping centers and houses. And I fear the worse. Several buildings will follow after the corona crisis. This is because people lose their jobs, companies go bankrupt, people cannot pay the rent and people flee off to the big city’s. Heerlen remains a city with empty destroyed buildings and full of graffiti. While this has not always been the case. In the time of the mines. even the people from maastricht were shopping in luxurious Heerlen. If Heerlen continues in this way, it will slowly be eaten by destruction and emptiness.

Blurring Heerlen offers a temporary solution. By literally blurring buildings that are ugly and overdue. This brings the quality of the neighborhood back. By blurring the buildings you almost forget what kid of ugly building is behind the blur. Your imagination is also stimulated. What could be behind this blur? because we cannot see it, we can think about a place in a completely different way. The possibilities are increased. I also want to raise awareness with this project. if every building that is overdue gets a blur, we see that Heerlen is eaten as a kind of mold. We don’t want the blur to slowly eat Heerlen, do we?
