Floor object “Berlin” pt. 1& pt.2 are part of an exhibition in Berlin. Klaas Kuiken and Charley Reijnders of WhiteNoiseDaDa asked me during my internship to design a floor object for this exhibition. A floor object is a broad concept. Klaas Kuiken and Charley Reijnders have given me the space to fill this in. A reference they gave was the film noir style.

In part 1 I chose to design sitting and lying objects that will be placed in the exhibition. Between the design pieces made by Charley Reijnders and Klaas Kuiken. In terms of form, these objects refer to film noir through its industrial, almost mechanical shapes. As a counterpart, sweet almost Memphis-like colors are used. This creates a connection between the hard shape and the soft appearance. While sawing the foam on the inside, lines arose that became visible through the fabric. This gave an effect where you get light and dark areas. These shadow areas have become an important part of the design.

In part 2 I chose to design a 3-dimensional rug that refers to the city (Film noir). This rug is not a literal city, but it does refer to this through elevations and reductions. Just like part 1, shadow areas are important. Because the foam is sawn kind of like ice rocks, the lines became clear. This rug is provided with textile in which glitters are incorporated in the fabric. These glints can only be seen from a certain viewing direction, so the shadow areas are not glittering and the illuminated areas glitter.
